Tehran warns Washington: “Naval escorts in the Strait of Hormuz equivalent to violating the ceasefire”

Iran is raising its voice and drawing a red line. “Any attempt by the United States to interfere with maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz will be considered by Tehran a violation of the ceasefire currently in effect,” declared Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, in a message posted on the social network X.

“The Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf will not be managed by Trump’s delusional posts,” Azizi added.

Tehran’s reaction comes just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on Sunday, launching “Project Freedom”, an initiative through which the U.S. Navy intends to escort foreign ships trapped in the Strait due to the conflict between Washington and Tehran, starting Monday morning. Trump specified that any interference with the operation “must be met with force.”

This is a firm (and legitimate) response against Trump’s latest mission, which in practice is an attempt to find a way to bypass the so-called War Powers Resolution of 1973 and continue the war in Iran without constraints.
