Israel bombs southern Lebanon, Israeli drones overfly Beirut

The truce in Lebanon is failing to hold. The Israeli army conducted a new series of attacks in the south of the country this morning, while drones overflew the capital, Beirut, in open violation of the ceasefire agreement currently in place.

The cessation of the use of force had come into effect on April 17 for an initial duration of ten days and was extended by three weeks last Thursday. However, despite the agreement formally being in force, violations have multiplied, fueling tensions along the Blue Line and in the southern region of Lebanon.

The raids on Zawtar al-Sharqiya

Operations began around six in the morning local time, when Israeli fighter jets launched three strikes on the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya, in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon. Simultaneously, in nearby Bint Jbeil, Israeli forces opened fire with heavy machine guns toward the Mihniyeh neighborhood. During the same hours, residents and observers reported the presence of unmanned aerial vehicles in the skies over Beirut.

A dramatic toll

The conflict has left a devastating trail across Lebanon. According to official Lebanese data, since the start of Israeli military operations in the country, more than 2,500 civilians have died, while over 1.6 million people have been forced to flee their homes.
