Gaza, endless tragedy: Israel continues Its strikes. Over 30 dead in 24 hours. The EU remains silent on the massacre carried out by Its “Democratic Partner”.

The devastation in the Gaza Strip continues unabated. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 37 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli bombings in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the escalation began in October 2023 to over 54,418 dead and 124,190 injured.

These figures point to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, worsened by the fact that many of the wounded remain trapped under rubble or stranded in streets inaccessible to rescuers due to the intensity of the attacks.

The IDF, Israel’s military, has been carrying out a relentless wave of attacks since March 18, with grim regularity, justified by Hamas’s refusal to accept a proposed negotiation. But how can trust be placed in a counterpart so seemingly disrespectful of human rights and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination? Meanwhile, beyond rhetoric, Gaza’s civilian population is enduring a horrifying humanitarian crisis marked by massacres, hunger, and destruction.

At the same time, the European Union continues to describe Israel as a “democratic partner,” despite daily evidence of what appears increasingly to be a systematic attempt to erase a population. Bombs, famine, and siege: this is the reality unfolding before the eyes of the international community, which seems either unable—or unwilling—to stop a tragedy that may go down as one of the gravest of our time. And the admonishments of the EU’s High Representative, Kaja Kallas, do little to change that.
