Trump on Iran: “I don’t care if they come back to negotiate”
Donald Trump is not worried. Or, at least, he wants people to believe he isn’t. Returning by plane from Florida to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, the President of the United States responded with disarming indifference when asked when Iran might return to the negotiating table.
“I don’t care if they come back or not. If they don’t come back, that’s fine with me,” Trump told reporters, using the tone of someone who has already won before the game is even over. The President then added that “Iran is in very bad shape” and finds itself in a “desperate” position.
Silence after Islamabad
Trump’s words come just days after the conclusion of the Islamabad talks without an agreement, where on April 11, the American and Iranian delegations sat at the same table, an extraordinary event in itself, yet failed to reach an understanding. Vice President JD Vance led the Washington team, while the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, led Tehran’s. Both sides admitted to the existence of “significant differences.” No date has been set for a potential new round of negotiations.
