Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz: U.S. strikes Iranian military installations
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that it conducted “self-defense” strikes against Iranian military targets after Tehran’s forces opened fire on three U.S. warships transiting the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman.
According to the official statement, Iran reportedly launched “missiles, drones, and small boats” at the destroyers USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason while they were traversing the international maritime corridor. CENTCOM described the attack as “unprovoked.”
Washington specified that it is not seeking escalation, while reiterating that it remains “positioned and ready” to defend its military personnel.
