White House: Trump orders investigation into Biden signed documents: “Possible abuse of power”.
U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum addressed to the Attorney General and the White House Counsel, ordering a formal investigation into alleged abuses of presidential authority during the administration of his predecessor, Joe Biden. At the center of the inquiry is the extensive use of the autopen, a mechanical device used to replicate the president’s signature, and the potential concealment of Biden’s cognitive condition.
In the memorandum, Trump claims that aides to former President Biden may have abused executive power by using the autopen to sign official documents while Biden’s mental state was, according to the text, “severely impaired.” The memorandum describes the situation as “one of the most dangerous and alarming conspiracies in American history.”
Trump accuses Biden’s aides of having “deliberately shielded the public from the truth” about the president’s health, restricting his public appearances and disseminating misleading statements.
During his presidency, the Biden administration reportedly issued over 1,200 presidential documents, appointed 235 federal judges, and granted a record number of pardons and commutations. A specific episode cited in the memorandum refers to December 23, 2024, when Biden allegedly commuted the sentences of 37 death row inmates, including—according to the text—“multiple murderers and some of the most heinous criminals.”
The memorandum instructs the White House Counsel, in coordination with the Attorney General, to investigate possible conspiracies to obscure Biden’s mental condition, the use of the autopen in key presidential acts (including pardons, executive orders, and memoranda), and the legality of these actions given Biden’s alleged incapacity.
