Ukraine, Trump optimistic about meeting with Putin: “We’ll reach an agreement.” On Zelenskyy: “I don’t like what he says”.

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed confidence in the possibility of organizing and holding a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an effort to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated: “I think we’ll reach an agreement. We need to meet, and I believe we’ll probably schedule it”. The American president emphasized his intention to personally work toward a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine, adding that he aims to ensure the mediation process moves quickly.

Regarding his meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump revealed that they have not been easy: “I had a really tough session with Zelenskyy because I didn’t like what he was saying, and it wasn’t easy. I always told him he didn’t have the right cards—and he doesn’t—and, you know, I was being honest”, he said.

Meanwhile, yesterday in Istanbul, following the first direct talks between Russia and Ukraine since 2022, both sides agreed to a prisoner exchange, with 1,000 Russian soldiers to be released in exchange for 1,000 Ukrainian prisoners.
