Ukraine, Putin extends Russia’s National Defense Plan by two years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed an executive decree extending the validity of the Russian Federation’s national defense plan by two years. Originally set for the 2021–2025 period, the plan will now remain in force until 2027.

The defense plan, adopted on November 12, 2020, is a key strategic tool for Russia’s national security. It outlines potential risks and threats to the country and sets forth measures to be implemented in critical areas such as the development of the armed forces, weapons programs, military mobilization preparedness, and territorial defense.

First introduced in January 2013, the national defense plan serves as the central framework for coordinating the efforts of the various state institutions involved in national security and defense. Its extension signals the Kremlin’s intention to strengthen and update the country’s strategic posture amid the ongoing confrontation with the West and the evolving conflict in Ukraine.
