Russia at the UN: “An immediate ceasefire is needed in the Middle East”

Russia has brought a formal proposal for a ceasefire in the Middle East to the United Nations Security Council. Moscow has prepared a draft resolution calling for an immediate halt to all military activities in the region, according to a source who spoke to TASS, which obtained the text of the document.

The text expresses “deep concern over the current military escalation in the Middle East and beyond, while mourning the tragic loss of human life during the ongoing hostilities in the region.” The document “urges all parties to immediately cease their military activities and to refrain from further escalation in the Middle East and beyond.”

This Russian initiative comes at a time of dramatic acceleration in the conflict, with energy markets in turmoil and Western governments divided on how to manage the crisis. However, the outcome of the vote within the Security Council remains uncertain: a resolution of this nature would require approval from the United States, which holds veto power and has already signaled that peace will be negotiated directly with Benjamin Netanyahu.
