Moscow accuses Kyiv: “Zelenskyy’s regime shows all the hallmarks of a terrorist organization”.
Tensions between Moscow and Kyiv continue to rise. Russian Senator Andrey Klishas, Chair of the Federation Council’s Committee on Constitutional Legislation, declared that the Ukrainian government led by Volodymyr Zelenskyy “displays all the characteristics typical of a terrorist organization.”
In a message posted on his Telegram channel, Klishas stated that “the official designation of the Kyiv regime as a terrorist organization is only a matter of time.”
His comments echo those of President Vladimir Putin, who on June 4 called the Ukrainian government “illegitimate” and accused it of “descending into terrorism” following a series of attacks on Russian territory attributed to Kyiv.
According to the Kremlin, the latest incidents have targeted civilians and strategic infrastructure. Among them, the derailment of a passenger train on the night of May 31 in the Bryansk region, allegedly caused by the deliberate explosion of a road bridge. The next day, another attack hit a railway bridge in the Kursk region, derailing a train and injuring three crew members.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has classified both incidents as terrorist attacks. Official figures report at least seven deaths and dozens of injuries.
Putin claimed the aim of the attacks was “to sabotage diplomatic efforts” and dismissed the idea of any peace talks with a government that “acts like a terrorist organization” as “absurd.”
“As it suffers heavy losses and retreats on the front lines, Ukraine is trying to spread panic in Russia through terror,” the president stated.
Moscow has vowed to raise the issue in international forums, ramping up its campaign to have the Ukrainian government labeled as a terrorist entity. If successful, such a move would carry significant diplomatic and legal implications, especially in relations between Russia and Western countries that support Kyiv.
For now, no international organization has endorsed this designation. Ukraine has denied the accusations and, in turn, accused Moscow of “propaganda manipulation” of the events.
