Erdoğan: “Israel is dragging the region toward disaster”

Harsh words, spoken at a symbolic moment. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chose the setting of an iftar in the capital, Ankara, to launch a direct indictment against Israel, accusing it of leading the Middle Eastern region toward a catastrophe.

“We all know that the attacks targeting first Gaza, then Yemen and Lebanon, and most recently Iran, are not motivated solely by security reasons,” declared the Turkish President. According to Erdoğan, Israel is being guided by “a network that considers itself superior to others” and is deliberately pushing the entire area toward the precipice.

The Turkish Head of State then framed the crisis within a broader context, warning that the international system built after World War II is undergoing a “historic rupture.” In this scenario, he stressed, it becomes essential to communicate clearly to global public opinion what is truly happening.

On the northern front, Israeli forces have meanwhile intensified operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, further expanding the perimeter of a conflict that seems to know no borders.
