Díaz-Canel defies Washington: “Those who attack us will find resistance”

It is a challenge issued openly, with no room for ambiguity. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has responded to growing pressure from the White House with a sharp warning posted on his social media channels: “Any external aggressor will clash with an impregnable resistance.”

The Head of State heatedly denounced what he defines as a systematic destabilization attempt by Washington, accusing the United States of “publicly threatening Cuba, almost daily, to forcibly overthrow the constitutional order.” The pretext, according to Díaz-Canel, is the state of an economy that the Americans have been striving to isolate through over sixty years of embargo.

The Cuban President further raised the stakes, denouncing plans that he claims aim to seize control of the island.

Díaz-Canel’s statements come in direct response to the latest remarks from the American administration. Donald Trump had increased tensions with a comment as vague as it was threatening: “Cuba is in very bad shape right now. And we’re going to do something very soon,” without providing further details.

On the same wavelength, Secretary of State Marco Rubio signaled the end of foreign subsidies to the island and launched an attack against Havana’s leadership: “Those in charge do not know how to solve the situation. They must put new people in leadership.”
